Cross Country Boys Varsity Vs. SECTIONALS
The boy’s team continues to improve as they garnered the 5th spot of State qualification (215 points) behind Benton, Pinckneyville, Freeburg, Anna Jonesboro, with fellow Gateway Conference member MEL also qualified in the 6th spot (21 teams/160 individuals). Liam Schmidt (46th) in 16:36, Connor Schmidt (49th) 16:41, Liam Boeving (52nd) 16:46, Riley Strack (53rd) 16:46, and Levi Huber (77th) in 17:22. Only 46 seconds separated our five scorers over 2.92 miles, and only 66 seconds with our 6/7th runners Nolan Shearer (80th,17:26), and Evan Rybak (88th,17:42). The “power of the pack” truly defines this version of the Griffin cross country team. The Griffins had PR efforts from Connor Schmidt, Liam Boeving, Levi Huber, and Nolan Shearer, with Riley Strack a season-best. This is the boy’s third qualification (2018, 2019) for the IHSA State Championships, and the first time the boys and girls have qualified together in program history; a defining moment for all past and future runners at FMCHS!!
