Cross Country Girls Varsity Vs. SECTIONALS
The Father McGivney Cross Country teams entered the Benton Sectional with one goal, to qualify for the IHSA State Championships in Peoria on November 5th…”Success!!” The Ladies started off the morning by finishing 4th overall (out of 21 teams/140 individuals) with 143 points, behind Anna Jonesboro, Breese Mater Dei, and Carterville; Pinckneyville and Freeburg also qualified. Kaitlyn Hatley again led the girls by finishing 2nd overall in 17:08 over the 2.92 mile course in a tough, gritty race. Elena Rybak (11th) and Jane Cummins (14th) also had top 15 races. Alyssa Terhaar was strong at 65th (20:49), Sofia Luna 82nd (21:21), and Isabella Harris 22:07. Sofia an excellent effort as our 5th scorer, and Jane had a PR performance. It is a repeat State qualification for our girl’s team: back-to-back years! One more race this fall…always want to be racing the first weekend in November.
