Team Stats

The CCHS Boys Tennis Team had a tremendous season this year. With a strong finish in the remaining matches, the Tennis Saints are looking at an 11-3 record with a 3rd and 5th place finish in two of our weekend tournaments.
Our team goals at the beginning of the season were to improve our schedule, improve our play in the tournaments and improve our position at sectionals. Already we have improved our schedule by adding teams like Dunlop, East Peoria and Peru St. Bede.  We tied for 3rd at the Pekin Invitational with Normal Community and took 5th at the Champaign Centennial Invitational after leaving early for Prom and defaulting the #1 Singles semi-final and championship, #2 doubles championship and #3 doubles 5th place matches. Our final challenge is to improve our position in the Sectional Tournament and we believe we have the players to accomplish this final goal.
Michael Guarienti is a four year letterman repeating as our number one player. Michael is a good all around player with great quickness, ground strokes and footwork His best quality is his hands and the ability to volley with touch.
Three year letterman Michael Kraft, last year’s most valuable player, competed for the championship at the Centennial and Pekin Invitational’s. Michael has an array of shots. When you play Michael Kraft you’re in for a long afternoon as the ball keeps coming back.
Brandon Cruse has been a pleasant surprise this year. Dominating his position in singles and becoming a force in doubles with Michael Kraft. Together they have mowed down the competition at #2 doubles and have a chance to win 15 matches this year.
Michael Bernhardt stepped in this year to play tennis for the Saints and we’re glad he did. Improving with every match, Michael has teamed up with Michael Guarienti to create an imposing doubles duo, taking on and defeating several number 1 doubles teams throughout the year.
Greg Naleway, Chase Hundman, Patrick Besler, Alex Ludwig and Dante Novario round out our outstanding players this year.
