Fresh Soph Third at Runnin' Red

For the second time this season,the Maroons of Champaign High competed with a split squad opting to load up the fresh/soph division.  The varsity squad, thinned out by the varsity runners competing in the fr/so division placed 21st with 525 points and the fr/so crew placed third with 111 points.

In the varsity division, Kennedy Ramshaw led the team with a 19:53.1 to place 62nd and secure the 5th position on the senior top ten list and 6th on the overall list..  Allison Hobson(100th, 20:47.6) secured the ninth position on the junior top ten list in a season’s best time after converting to account for the 2.94 mile course.  Darwyn Sly(165th) and Gwen Ellis(166th) were nearly inseparable throughout the race, both running a 23:10.6 for 2.94 miles.  When converted for a 3 mile distance, Sly’s time was a lifetime best and Ellis secured a season best. Rayleigh Law(180th) was close behind in 23:44.0, a season best for her as well. Lauren Matthews(214th) ran a 25:48.0 which is a season best time after conversion.  Susan Philip(218th) ran a 26:43.0 to close out the varsity race for Champaign

In the freshman/sophomore race Kitty Miller(16th,20:24.3),Izzy Buldak(17th, 20:31.5) and Anna Sweet(23rd, 20:56.2) all earned medals to lead the Maroons.  Miller’s time ties her for the 6th fastest freshman time on the Black Partridge Park course while Buldak and Sweet secured the 7th and 10th spots respectively on the sophomore list. Reese Baumann(66th) covered the course in 23:34.1 to complete the scoring squad for the Maroons.  Lilly Plankell(78th) posted a 24:35.8, a time that converts to a career best for her.  Kenadi Malone ran 25:15.6 to place 88th and serve as the second pusher for the Champaign squad.  Caroline Bequette(93rd) posted a 25:30.4, a season best time when converted to a three mile time. Cally Esslinger(100th) ran a 26:07.1, a season’s best after conversion. Zoe Lindgren(103rd) followed closely behind, covering the course in 26:26.0. Adeline Rogers(105th) ran a 26:40.7, a time that converts to a lifetime best for her. Lailah Davis rounded out the field for Champaign, completing her race in 32:20.3.

Veterans running course best times included Izzy Buldak, Anna Sweet, Darwyn Sly, Lilly Plankell, and Cally Esslinger.  Izzy Buldak posted the largest course improvement of the day, dropping 3:25.3 from her previous best. Gwen Ellis cut 1:42 from her best performance this season for the largest season improvement.  Adeline Rogers dropped 54 seconds from her best for the largest career improvement.
