Vanderkolk leads the Knights at the Red Raider Tournament
The Auburn Chess Team is back and better than last year. This season we finished 4 and 1 in the Western Division of the Northern Illinois Chess League (NICL).
The Knights just followed up with a 3 and 1 finish in the Huntley Invitational. We tied for 2nd to 5th place taking 4th due to tie breaks. Our only loss was a one-point defeat to last year’s number 32 team. We beat number 40 Huntley, the NICL West number one team in the final round 54-14.
Our individual results were also great. Our Board 1 Ethan Vanderkolk went 4-0 and was the 1st place medal winner. Our Board 2 Ian Wan went 3.5-0.5 was the 3rd place winner medal winner. Sayana Bilguun went 4-0 and took the Board 4 1st place medal. Michele Liu went 3-1 and took the 3rd place medal. And Honorable mention, Paxton Gottschalk went 3-1 in the Open Section.
Our Castle was protected. Not-so-good for our opponents.
